The Palestinian Businessmen Association, Bank of Palestine and the Arab Islamic Bank met at PBA’s headquarters in the city of Al Bireh to discuss means of cooperation with the private and banking sectors to implement a new vision to overcome the current financial and economic crisis confronted by Palestine as a result of the political situation and the Coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting was held in the presence of Eng. Ousama Amro, the President of the Palestinian Businessmen Association, Eng. Mohammed Al Amour, President of the Economic Committee, members of the Economic Committee, several businessmen including, Eng. Ziad Anabtawi, Mahmoud Al Zalmout, Adnan Qirresh, Mr. Rushdi Ghalayini, the General Director of Bank of Palestine, Mr. Hani Nasser, the General Director of the Islamic Arab Bank, and Mr. Nasser Bakir, the Director of Corporate Business at Bank of Palestine.

This meeting forms part of a series of meetings organized by the Palestinian Businessmen Association within the framework of continuous reactions by several parties since the launch of the new vision that was announced last month.

Meeting participants discussed the proposed solutions in order to take practical steps and implement them on the ground, calling upon the implementation of extensive workshops at various levels and the gathering of all efforts to confront the upcoming economic challenges. 

Mr. Rushdi Ghalayini, the General Director of Bank of Palestine, praised the efforts of the Palestinian Businessmen Association that aim to revive the economic situation, and its role in promoting the efforts of Palestinian businessmen. Ghalayini expressed his gratitude and appreciation of this valuable endeavor, which reflects important solutions. He called upon the implementation of extensive meetings with all banks in order to study and discuss the outputs of this vision.

Mr. Hani Nasser, the General Director of the Islamic Arab Bank, stressed the importance of the meetings organized by the Palestinian Businessmen Association, considering them a starting point for the formation of a national vision that represents a way out of the economic and financial crisis confronted by Palestine.

Eng. Ousama Amro, the President of the Palestinian Businessmen Association, stressed the importance of building a partnership between the private sector, the government and other sectors and involving all relevant stakeholders in the decision making process in light of all economic variables by establishing appropriate mechanisms to confront the current challenges and obstacles, as well as make real achievements on the ground, with short and long term impact.

Eng. Mohammed Al Amour, President of the Economic Committee, presented the methodology of the vision that resulted in valuable recommendations, which were presented to all parties concerned. Al Amour stressed that efforts will continuously move forward in order to achieve this vision on the ground. He thanked the efforts conducted by Bank of Palestine Group and its keenness on working together to overcome the economic crisis confronted by Palestine. He called upon the meeting participants to gather all efforts, partners and concerned bodies possible to confront the upcoming economic challenges by holding sector-specific workshops in the presence of specialists, experts, lawmakers and legislators to benefit from this vision on a practical level.
