Bank of Palestine provided exclusive sponsorship for UNRWA schools cross-country race, which started in Jericho, under the patronage and presence of the President of the Olympic Committee, Brigadier-General Jibril Rajoub, and organized by the Palestinian Athletics Federation, as part of the final qualifiers for the internal championships organized by UNRWA schools for their students.
The race, which is the first of its kind at the level of the northern governorates, started from the Jericho roundabout in the city center, towards Aqabat Jabr camp, to the UNRWA School for Girls in the camp, with the participation of 98 schools, with three players (females and males) from each school. The distance traveled by the participants reached 3 km, knowing that the same event will be held in the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip next Saturday.
Mr. Mahmoud Al Shawa, the General Manager of Bank of Palestine, said, "Our sponsorship of such sporting events, in partnership with the Palestinian Athletics Federation, aims primarily to support the sports sector in Palestine, in addition to promoting a sports culture among segments of society, including school students."
Al Shawa stressed that Bank of Palestine, as part of its social responsibility towards society, is keen on supporting the various sports federations and clubs in the various governorates of the country and meet their needs, in order to contribute to their development and sustainability, in addition to developing the capabilities of players of both sexes and refining their skills, in a manner that enriches their mental and physical health and provides them good and healthy upbringing through the practice of sports activities.
The President of the Palestinian Athletics Federation explained that this race aims to discover talented athletes in Palestine through the UNRWA schools for girls and boys, numbering 98, distributed across all governorates of the country in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The support of Bank of Palestine, the most important supporter of national sports, aims to build the capabilities of sports institutions and enable them to continue their mission and achieve their goals.
It is worth noting that Bank of Palestine allocates, within its social responsibility and sustainability programs, 5% of its annual profits to support community initiatives, stemming from its vision to support the community by actively contributing to achieving sustainable community development. The bank provides support to various sectors, including the sports sector, to contribute to its empowerment and advancement.
