Bank of Palestine made a generous donation for the establishment of a new building for the kidney dialysis department at the Palestine Medical Complex in the city of Ramallah. This donation is part of the bank's community contribution for the development of the health sector and the improvement of health services in Palestine. It also forms part of the many efforts conducted for decreasing the sufferings confronted by patients who undergo kidney dialysis, and reducing financial burdens especially on the economically challenged.
The inauguration of the new department, part of the Palestine Medical Complex, took place in the presence of the Palestinian Prime Minister, the Governor of the Ramallah-Al Bireh governorate, the Minister of Health, other ministers and officials, as well as representatives from Bank of Palestine, private sector organizations and relevant stakeholders. Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Al Hamadallah stated that every hospital or government health center that is established is an incentive for providing treatment and supporting self-resources. It also forms part of a success story in providing safe, high quality and sustainable medical services. Al Hamadallah announced his willingness to provide employees for the new kidney dialysis department following the construction of two additional floors for the building. He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the donors and supporting national partner organizations, praising the harmony of roles played by the private and public sectors, as well as initiatives that aim to develop and promote the health sector in Palestine.
With the opening of the new kidney dialysis department, the number of kidney dialysis machines increased from 20 to 47, and this expansion will allow for increasing the work capacity for the next five years without the need to transfer patients to hospitals that fall outside the network of government hospitals. It is important to mention that government hospitals include nine kidney dialysis departments in the northern governorates that work efficiently around the clock to respond to the needs of patients and decrease their suffering. Medical and nursing staff at the new kidney dialysis department will receive the necessary training that will qualify them to manage the department and succeed in providing the necessary treatment.
Dr. Laila Ghanem, the Governor of the Ramallah and Al Bireh governorate, stated that the establishment of the new building is the result of fruits reaped by businessmen and goodwill ambassadors in Palestine and abroad, especially the Palestinian diaspora community in the United States who are the mastermind behind this initiative. She added that contributions made by the private sector are also of utter importance because they are considered the right-hand person for Palestinian governmental institutions. This being said, Ghanem greeted and thanked the Palestinian Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the private sector at home and abroad for leaving their praiseworthy footprints. She also pointed out that with assistance from the governorate, the private sector continuously contributes to supporting persons with special needs by providing them electric chairs and artificial organs, in addition to university scholarships and several qualitative projects, most recently being the Beit Furik School and support for the Children's Village in Bethlehem, and other similar projects.
There are thousands of cases of kidney failure in Palestine, all of which require constant care and treatment, not to mention that most of these cases suffer from difficult financial situations and are in need of dire assistance. This project is among the most important sustainable initiatives for which the bank contributes, and the health sector is on its list of top priorities.
