Bank of Palestine Donates 10,000 School Bags, Uniforms and Footwear to Gaza Strip Schools

The UNICEF and BOP have signed an agreement to support Gaza Strip school children. According to the agreement, BOP has donated 10,000 school bags, uniforms and footwear to school children affected by the latest Israeli military offensive on the strip.

For his part, BOP Chairman and General Manager Hashim Shawa stated BOP is now targeting Gaza Strip school children who have lost their homes as a result of the latest Israeli military offensive. Shawa added that since its inception, BOP has being making tremendous efforts as part of its corporate social responsibility to support Palestinian children in all occasions. He expressed pride in the partnership with the UNICEF and the Ministry of Higher Education.

BOP’s contribution to school children support project is worth USD 125,000 earmarked to cover back-to-school aid initiated by the UNICEF and Ministry of Higher Education.

Special UNICEF representative to Palestine June Kunugi expressed her appreciation for the strong partnership with BOP and its steady support of the right of children to education. She added partnership with BOP strengthens and facilitates UNICEF’s cooperation with relevant organizations that support children and raises public awareness concerning support of children whether financially or otherwise in order to realize the rights of children.

More than half-a-million school children in the Gaza Strip have returned to school early this month. Fifty days of incessant bombardment and shelling has left more than 500 casualties and 3,300 injured children and hundreds traumatized.

Moreover, BOP has initiated “Gaza is in Our Hearts” campaign in the Gaza Strip which is a relief campaign targeting various sectors. The campaign has been initiated to provide Gaza hospital with medicine, fuel and artificial limbs, implement children counselling programs and provide food packages. BOP has succeeded in raising the number of supporters to “Gaza Is in Our Hearts” campaign and facilitating donations through its employees and customers with the view of alleviating the humanitarian crisis and suffering in the Gaza Strip.
