Bank of Palestine (BOP) in Cooperation with Welfare Association (WA) Launches Campaign to Provide Gaza Hospitals and Maqassed Hospital in Jerusalem with Medical Supplies and Emergency Relief

In light of the Israeli military aggression against Palestinian civilians in Gaza Strip, and due to the difficult conditions Palestinian hospitals are going through including acute lack of medical and relief supplies, BOP has launched a donation campaign in cooperation with WA for the benefit of hospitals in Gaza and the Maqassed Hospital in Jerusalem. Maqassed Hospital provides medical services to Palestinian civilians injured during the recent clashes in the city as well as civilians critically wounded in the latest Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip. The campaign aims to purchase shipments of medicine and medical supplies and fuel to ensure that ambulances and hospitals in Gaza continue to operate in emergency situations.

Launched as part of “Gaza Is in Our Hearts,” the campaign has opened an account in the name of WA to enable Palestinian citizens make cash donations in BOP branches, offices and ATMs as well as through using locally or internationally issued Visa and Master Cards or through electronic banking. For its part, WA is regularly updating the list of urgent medical needs for all Gaza hospitals.

In addition, BOP has announced an emergency donation of USD 100,000 to meet the needs of Gaza hospitals in difficult times. BOP has also supplied Gaza hospitals with about 25,000 liters of fuel to ensure their full operation. Last week BOP announced the donation of a medical shipment to Maqassed Hospital in Jerusalem.

For his part, BOP Chairman and General Manager Mr Hashim Shawa said BOP campaign and contribution are part of the Bank’s national and humanitarian responsibility toward the Palestinian people. Shawa added, “There is an urgent need to help our people in Gaza Strip and Jerusalem in order to alleviate the dire humanitarian crisis caused by the unceasing Israeli aggression and resulting in hundreds of innocent Palestinian civilians.”

WA Director-General Dr Tafida Jarbawi said WA has donated USD 300,000 so far as urgent support to Palestinians in Gaza Strip. She pointed out that WA has been working on providing Gaza Strip with all kinds of humanitarian aid since the first hours of the Israeli military aggression. She added WA is coordinating its aid operations with civil organizations, partners and the private sector. Moreover, WA has sent out an SOS calling for immediate financial support to meet the health and living needs as well as the dignity of Palestinian civilians in Gaza Strip.

Dr Jarbawi extended gratitude to BOP for its active role in standing with the Palestinian people now surviving in the midst of exceptional and horrendous conditions. BOP, Dr Jarbawi said, is committed to corporate social, humanitarian and national responsibility.

BOP has opened two account numbers: 1/226600 for donations from individuals, companies and organizations to Gaza hospitals, and 2/226600 for donations to Maqassed Hospital in Jerusalem.
