Bank of Palestine Finances the Renovation of Sobat Al-Alami Heritage House in Gaza City

Bank of Palestine has undertaken exclusive responsibility to finance the renovation of Sobat Al-Alami Heritage House in Gaza City in cooperation with IWAN Center of the Islamic University in Gaza. The house has great historical and cultural significance dating back to more than 430 years. Sobat Al-Alami is an old house built at the beginning of the Ottoman era and is considered a cultural heritage that Al-Alami family in Gaza seeks to preserve. The house’s historical significance is an inseparable part of the Palestinian collective identity.

The closing ceremony for completing the renovation process was attended by Bank of Palestine Marketing and Public Relations Director in Gaza Mr Khaldoun Abu Salim, IWAN Center for Architectural Heritage Director Dr. Mohammad El-Kahlout, Public Relations Officer at the Islamic University in Gaza Dr Ahmad Mheisen as well as journalists and media representatives.

For his part, Dr Abu Salim said the contribution of Bank of Palestine in renovating Sobat Al-Alami House attests to the bank’s interest in heritage and cultural projects, which constitute an integral part of the bank’s mission to preserve Palestinian heritage. He added Bank of Palestine has allocated a portion of its budget for corporate social responsibility projects with the view of preserving Palestinian heritage and culture, enhance Palestinian identity and maintain the historical capabilities of Palestine.

Mr Riyad Al-Alami extended his gratitude for the efforts exerted by Bank of Palestine and its sponsorship of the renovation process of Sobat Al-Alami Heritage House. He made clear that the house contains several galleries of Palestinian heritage and is daily receiving visitors.
