10/9/2013- Tuesday, At Bank of Palestine Headquarter in Ramallah and in cooperation with the Palestinian Green Building Council, BOP awarded the winners of the Palestinian Green Buildings logo design.
The winning logos were chosen by a committee that was previously formed, three prizes in the form of Cash Cards were distributed as follows; USD 500 were awarded for Fa’eq Wafa Mer’ee from Birzeit University who took the first place, USD 300 for Huda Abu Aysha from An-Najah University who took the second place, and USD 200 for Mohammed Zreqat from Palestine Polytechnic University who took the third place. These awards were given by Bank of Palestine.
Head of Marketing and Public Relations Department in BOP Mr. Thaer Hamayel expressed his pleasure for sponsoring this competition which encourages creativity in youth; he added that Bank of Palestine supports and encourages green projects which are "environment-friendly" and that BOP developed a special programme for offering Green Loans for alternative energy projects and wastewater desalination for agriculture use. Mr. Hamayel concluded by congratulating the winners in the competition; hoping for them and for the Palestinian council for green buildings a great and continued success.
Head of Green Building Council, Dr. Afif Aqel gave a general background about the establishment of the council, he also said that this council is a member of the World Green Building Council which was founded in 2002 in Canada. This council encourages all educational institutions, universities, engineers, Engineers Association, Federation of Contractors, developers, and governmental institutions to work on designing buildings that are environmentally friendly. Dr. Afif said that the idea of this competition came from the council’s believe in youth capabilities and creativity, he also expressed his gratitude for Bank of Palestine for his support and care of the council and the competition.
Acting Head of Environmental Quality Authority, Mr. Jamil Matour expressed his appreciation for Bank of Palestine for sponsoring, supporting, and hosting this competition; indicating that there is a great concentration on green architecture and technology. He also expressed his support of the Bank’s initiative in developing a programme for Green Loans, and of BOP’s efforts in developing and supporting environmentally friendly projects.
