Represented by its Chairman of the Board and General Manager Mr Hashim Al-Shawa, Bank of Palestine signed an agreement with Qattan Foundation represented by its Director-General Mr Ziad Khalaf for the implementation of the Mobile Library Project in the Gaza Strip. The project includes the purchase of a vehicle outfitted with all necessary equipment and loaded with valuable books to function as a mobile library and tour the strip especially marginalized and deprived areas. In addition to the promotion of reading, the project will include a number of cultural and recreational activities for children up to 15.
The signing of the agreement took place at Bank of Palestine main HQ in Ramallah. The value of the five-year project, which will be implemented by Qattan Foundation, is estimated at USD 361,000 of which Bank of Palestine will provide USD 172,000 and Qattan Foundation USD 188,000.
The project aims to contribute to expanding the creative, cultural and artistic horizons of children through consolidating and reinforcing the reading and self-learning habit among children living in marginalized and deprived areas. In addition, the project aims to upgrade art appreciation in children and provide them with an interactive educational environment. The project targets pre-school children as well as pupils in the elementary and preparatory levels (1st-9th grades). It is anticipated that the project will be implemented in partnership with local community institutions working in the area of childhood and schools while accommodating at the same time for an equitable geographical distribution in the different districts.
