Hashim Shawa, Chairman and General Manager of BOP, and Jebreel Al-Rjoub, head of the Palestinian Football federation, met at BOP management center in Ramallah to discuss possible opportunities for cooperation for supporting the Palestinian sports sector.
Shawa praised the important role played by Al-Rjoub in the unprecedented development of the Palestinian sports sector, and noted that BOP is ready to support the sector. Last year, BOP launched Al-Bara'em Football Championship for qualifying children and young teens into becoming skilled football players. So far, Al-Bara'em resulted in the Palestinian Girls' team winning second place in the West Asia qualifiers in Doha.
Al-Rjoub presented the latest updates in the Palestinian sports sector, as well as preparations for the West Asia qualifiers. Al-Rjoub revealed that Joseph Blatter, president of FIFA, will visit Palestine in July 2013 to inaugurate the new football academy and the headquarters of the Football Federation in Jerusalem. A new book marking 100 years of Palestinian sports will be issued during the visit, in addition to the rehabilitation of two stadiums in the West Bank.
