Bank of Palestine has exclusively sponsored Palestine Bike Race, which is part of the activities of the Palestinian Youth Sports League (PYSL). The race was organized by Sharek Youth Forum in Jericho and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and India, Brazil and South Africa Forum (IBSA) in cooperation with the Palestinian Association for Children’s Encouragement of Sports (PACES). The Palestine Bike Race is a culmination of a series of 8 races that have taken place in 8 Palestinian districts during the past short period.
Forty-two cyclists took part in the race using their personal bicycles. The five cyclists aged 12-16 from each district who ranked first in the 6-km race participated in the race. After distributing uniforms, numbers and special helmets to the cyclists, Mr Wissam Shweiki gave participants a detailed explanation on the route of the race and the final destination. He also gave special instructions on the race and distributed volunteers to their different stations on the road. At 11:00 Governor of Jericho gave the whistle announcing the race kick off. The race set out at the new vegetable market and headed toward Papaya Road and then back again to the vegetable market.
At the end of the race guests of honor distributed certificates and medals to participants and presented a trophy, a gold medal and a sophisticated bicycle as a gift from Bank of Palestine to the winner of the race Hassan Ghrouf from Jericho. Rami Adhba from Qalqilya ranked second and received the silver medal and a bicycle as a gift from Bank of Palestine. Amir Al-Nashash from Jericho ranked third and received the bronze medal and a bicycle donated by Bank of Palestine. Cyclists who ranked 4-10 received medals in the following order Qatiba Qatit, Khaled Barahme, Mohammad Mari, Mohammad Saleh, Mohammad Barahme, Hadi Muqbil, and Aref Aslan.
