BoP as the Golden Sponsor of Expotech Palestine 2012

 

Bank of Palestine was the Golden Sponsor of Expotech Technology Week 2012- Palestine, which kicked off in Ramallah yesterday in an event attended by a vast crowd of political, economic, and business figures, and representatives of the private sector and civil society in Gaza and the West Bank. The technology week, organized by PITA, was also attended by Google, Microsoft, Cisco, and several Palestinian ICT companies.

Hashim Shawa, Chairman and General Manager of BoP, affirmed that the bank believes in the importance of technological development in Palestine and in the world, and its relation to economic development. Shawa further stated that BoP was among the first Palestinian institutions to use computers in 1981. BoP also initiated electronic sales services and credit card use in Palestine by distributing more than 5000 POS around the country, thus contributing to the economy and facilitating tourist expenditure. Moreover, several contributions were made to young ICT entrepreneurs and start-ups developed in cooperation with Google, Start-Up Weekend, and Oasis 500. Several computer labs were donated to Palestinian schools and universities.  

Among Expotech Technology Week’s activities, an ICT exhibition will be launched this Tuesday and will continue for two days. The exhibition will include a forum for innovators, with more than 40 ICT innovators showcasing their creative projects and ideas. Several workshops will be organized by international experts for local ICT companies and representatives, aiming at sharing experiences in the technology world and highlighting the latest developments and global trends in the ICT field.

Expotech Technology Week 2012 – Palestine is mainly sponsored by PALTEL Group, with a golden sponsorship from Bank of Palestine, and support from USAID, Cisco, Hadara, and  number of other international and Palestinian companies.
