Bank of Palestine Supports Birzeit University in its Efforts to Develop Projects Serving People with Disabilities

Within the framework of its sustainability strategy, Bank of Palestine signed an agreement with Birzeit University to support students with disabilities by financing their priority needs, such as establishing a computer lab and making adjustments to facilities and entrances of some buildings and faculties at the university.

The agreement was signed on the university campus in the presence of Hisham Shawa, Chairman of the Board of Bank of Palestine; Mahmoud Shawa, the bank's General Manager; Dr. Bishara Domani, President of Birzeit University; several university vice presidents and department heads; representatives of the bank; and students with disabilities who shared their experiences about access to education at the university.

Hisham Shawa commented, in a press release, "We are proud to partner with the university through several activities, including providing suitable academic and educational services for students with disabilities, thus keeping pace with their needs during all stages of learning."

Mahmud Shawa underscored that Bank of Palestine gives paramount importance to supporting activities aimed at empowering people with disabilities through its sustainability concept for the benefit of various segments of society. He reiterated the bank's commitment to developing more cooperation between the private and education sectors - a main partner in preparing the workforce with qualified and leadership-ready human resources. He expressed his appreciation of the efforts exerted by Birzeit University to enhance its academic system through its interest in the quality of education, specialized teaching staff, and offering various academic programs, especially in scientific research. This commitment has placed the university among the leading academic pillars in the country.

Dr. Domani thanked everybody for this grand gesture by the Bank of Palestine for its continued efforts in serving all walks of life within the community, as well as trying to satisfy all their needs to cover Birzeit University students' needs mainly those with disabilities.

He explained that the support offered by Bank of Palestine will help develop the educational system at Birzeit University and hence reflexively would have a very positive impact on the students by providing them with distinguished scientific knowledge, highly qualified academic programs, and individual skills, serving to enhance their competitiveness toward being creative, active contributors who can promote scientific research globally while contributing towards community needs for sustainable economic, social, human, and technological development.

It is worth mentioning that Bank of Palestine allocates about 5% of its annual profits to support various community programs and activities. This is part of its vision and strategy to serve the local community in general and the education sector in particular, to achieve sustainability, and to participate in developing the community and the economy.
